At Garuda Centre, we utilize the Bio-Psycho-Social-Spiritual Model (BPSS) and focus on behavioral medicine. We see people, not patients. We have created an economical, small batch, Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that is a syncretism of evidence-based wisdom traditions and modern addiction treatment, it is called Ki Method®. Our method has aspects of Advanced Group Process, Attachment Theory, Somatic-Psychotherapy, Kundalini Yoga, Mindfulness Meditation + Martial Arts.
The backbone of our community-based Behavioral Medicine Aftercare Programs (BMAP) is Group Medical Visits. MSP coverage for Group Medical Visits is dependent on a participant having a relevant diagnosis. Our program is designed for adults (19+) who are capable of participating in a rigorous outpatient program that meets for 3-months, 3-days per week for 3-hrs per day. The program is not suitable for everyone and will challenge participants physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
A 3-month commitment with a stable/sober living environment is a prerequisite for our program. Applicants must have been through a medical detox/residential rehab program or equivalent (as assessed and documented by a Healthcare Professional). Applicants must also be a minimum of 30-days alcohol + substance free before applying. Check out our program brochure here.
The cost for our 3-month program is $3,600 plus GST, approximately $300/week, which is significantly less than the average cost of other IOPs. If participants are covered by their extended healthcare benefits for addiction services and/or clinical counselling, or are First Nations Health Authority members (FNHA), the cost will be substantially less. Our administration fee is included in this cost and there are no hidden fees.
Applicants must be willing and able to take part in a group setting and have a physician or nurse practitioner referral to ensure adequate support for any ongoing or new medical issues that arise during or after the program.
Garuda Centre is not a medical clinic. We do not have the capacity to provide primary care. We do not initiate or prescribe opiate agonist therapy (OAT). However, applicants who are already being prescribed OAT on a stable dose by another provider with the goal of either ongoing maintenance or a gradual taper (≥3month) will be considered.
Applicants with acute/severe mental health symptoms (e.g., psychosis, suicidality, active flashbacks etc), history of violent behaviours or other issues that would impair their participation or disrupt others in regular group activities are NOT APPROPRIATE REFERRALS. Please see referral form and criteria for eligibility. We welcome you to contact us with any additional questions.
