Socrates believed that the unexamined life was not worth living. Only in striving to come to know ourselves and to understand ourselves do our lives have any meaning or value.
Similarly, clinical counselling involves a working relationship with an expert guide who is uniquely positioned to help you uncover innate wisdom and discover self-knowledge to live a meaningful life, bereft of regret and unrealized potential… OR if you just need a tune-up, no need to make the “noble choice” in the face of death like good ol’ Socrates, just book an appointment to get back on track.
Due to COVID-19 and public health recommendations, we have brought the bulk of our services online to keep a continuity of care, please call or email us for personalized service or questions.
Whether you are a stressed healthcare professional or someone feeling increasingly overwhelmed, we are here to support you. We recognize that staying safe, grounded + healthy is a priority now and have changed our operations to meet the needs of our clients + community. Thank you for practicing social distancing and following provincial healthcare protocols to keep the most vulnerable in our community safe.
We have changed our cancellation policy to reflect the times. You will not be charged a cancellation fee until further notice. No shows will remain the same. You will be charged 50% of the entire cost of the session.
*We work within our scope of expertise, which unfortunately does not include active suicidality, psychosis or personality disorders. If you are suffering from one of these issues please see your healthcare provider for an appropriate referral.*
A little stress in our lives can help us get things done, focus and even motivate us to make significant life changes for the better… but when it gets to be too much it often leads to “distress” a negative state that actually causes many of the stress-related health problems we struggle with, including substance misuse and addictions. In counselling, we focus on the non-medical aspects of stress-related health problems and addiction, that create and fuel maladaptive behaviours and mental states.
Research shows that those with a better ability to empathize and be compassionate are at a higher risk of developing secondary stress disorder or compassion fatigue. The poor health and burnout that can result affects us both personally and professionally. We specialize in helping Healthcare Professionals, whether you are looking for a critical incident debrief, navigating a complaint or need another perspective for a personal issue, we know where you’re coming from.
Relationship endings and transitions can be times of great strain but also of accelerated growth. Intimacy reactions, attachment insecurity, rekindling attraction and getting over your ex is what we do best.
Have you lost your way; have you lost your balls; have you lost your balls along the way? Get ‘em back! Maybe it’s time to upgrade your operating system and stop waiting for things to go back to the way they were… Let’s work together to get you back in the game.
Existential Angst is a normal, natural side effect of being alive and tends to occur during different life cycles, whether in your 20’s or mid-life. Something is off and you can’t quite put your finger on it. A low-level anxiety that never leaves. A sense that your life should be more than it is. Exploring this can lead to meaningful and fruitful insights.
Our therapists have a fundamental ethical responsibility to take every reasonable precaution to respect and to safeguard their clients’ right to confidentiality. The exceptions to this are clearly communicated and defined in the intake process.
Our counsellors are solid humans with a high level of training, including the ‘RCC’ designation of distinction from the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC)
As of February 15th 2020, our Registered Clinical Counseling rates will be changed. We will be switching to the BCACC suggested model of 50-min sessions. Sessions are subject to 5% GST and costs will vary per counsellor. Rates are displayed when booking a counselling appointment online or please contact us to book if you need a specific time or day.
It is up to the counsellor if they wish to use a sliding fee scale. We are aligned with many extended health plans and have rates for Students and First Nations Health Authority FNHA members. Please contact us to inquire.
Direct billing for counselling is not available from most extended health plans as of yet. Insurance companies are all different so please call your provider before your first visit and make sure you are eligible and find out what your deductible is, if you need a referral from a physician and what kind of coverage you have. We will provide you with an official receipt for reimbursement.
Cancellation/no show policy: Garuda Centre has a 24-hour cancellation policy. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice will be charged 50% of the total cost. Missed appointments (no shows) are also charged 50% of the full session fee.
